Cortrucent Technologies is seeking a Junior Full Stack Developer to help build and maintain healthcare technology platforms used by hospital systems and their patients, including a clinical document exchange and eligibility application and a companion patient-facing portal, all handling PHI under HIPAA. You will write, test, and ship production code across the full stack: Python backend services, modern JavaScript front ends, and hand-written SQL. You will use AI coding assistants as part of the daily workflow, with full responsibility for reviewing, correcting, and defending every line before it reaches a pull request. This is a hands-on role with structured onboarding, direct mentorship from senior engineers, and real ownership from day one. The right candidate has 1 to 3 years of professional experience (or equivalent ability), codes well, tests as a habit, and treats security and PHI handling as engineering fundamentals rather than someone else's job. If you want to grow fast on a small, senior team where your work directly reaches patients and clinical staff, we want to hear from you.

Description

Employment Type: Full-Time

About Cortrucent

At Cortrucent, we do more than safeguard businesses, we empower them to thrive through IT innovation, cybersecurity, and business transformation.

Our Vision

To be the most trusted technology partner for organizations that take their security, their operations, and their future seriously.

Our Mission - Securing Business. Enabling Growth.

Our mission is to be the partner organizations rely on for security, IT, and building AI-driven solutions, delivering on one promise every day: Securing Business. Enabling Growth.

Our Values - TRUST | TRANSPARENCY | TEAMWORK

• Trust - We earn it through competence, discretion, and doing what we say we will do. Our clients hand us their most critical systems, and we treat that responsibility accordingly.
• Transparency - We communicate openly about progress, pricing, and problems. Bad news travels fast here, and surfacing issues early is rewarded, never punished.
• Teamwork - We share knowledge, review each other's work, and succeed together. No silos, no territory, no heroes working alone.

About the Role

Cortrucent is seeking a Junior Full Stack Developer. We build and maintain healthcare technology platforms used by hospital systems and their patients, a clinical document exchange and eligibility application, and a companion patient-facing portal. Both handle protected health information under HIPAA and integrate with payer, clearinghouse, and provider systems.

This is a hands-on role for someone early in their career who codes well and uses AI development tools well. You'll write, review, test, and ship application code, some of it drafted by AI coding assistants, all of it your responsibility to understand, verify, and defend in code review. We are explicitly not looking for someone who accepts generated code at face value.

You will work closely with senior engineers, with structured onboarding and real ownership.

What You’ll Do

Core Development

• Build and modify API endpoints and backend service logic in Python.
• Write and modify front-end components and screens, including work in large existing files.
• Write and tune SQL and author schema changes by hand.

Quality & Testing

• Write tests alongside your code and treat test coverage as part of the work rather than an afterthought.
• Reproduce and fix defects reported by clients and internal QA.

Security & Compliance

• Apply role-based authorization correctly on everything you touch — getting this wrong is a security defect, not a style issue.
• Handle PHI correctly in code: logging, exception handling, audit trails, file paths, and error messages.

Tooling, Documentation & Continuous Improvement

• Use AI coding assistants to move faster, then review, correct, and test the output before it reaches a pull request.
• Document what you build and write down the sharp edges nobody has captured yet.

What You Bring

• 1-3 years professional expereince or equivalent abilities
• Python proficiency, including experience with a web framework and comfort reading unfamiliar code.
• SQL databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar): joins, aggregation, indexes, transactions, and the ability to write DDL by hand.
• Experience with an ORM, and an understanding of what it's actually doing to the database underneath.
• Modern JavaScript and a component-based front-end framework. Comfort reading a large component and making a surgical change without proposing to rewrite it.
• Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
• Automated testing experience in at least one language, and a genuine habit of writing tests alongside code.
• Git fluency - branching, merging, resolving conflicts, and participating in pull request review.
• Demonstrated use of AI coding assistants in real projects, with the judgment to recognize when generated code is wrong, insecure, over-engineered, or inconsistent with surrounding conventions.
• Command-line comfort, and the ability to work through an involved local environment setup without losing a week to it.
• Clear written communication — you can describe a bug, a fix, and a tradeoff in plain language, and ask a precise question when stuck.
• Passion for technology & security
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship — current or future.

Bonus Points For

• Experience in a HIPAA-regulated or otherwise compliance-heavy engineering environment.
• Familiarity with healthcare concepts — eligibility, charity care, medical assistance programs, appeals, consent and signature workflows, or revenue cycle generally.
• Experience with containerized local development.
• Exposure to OAuth2 / enterprise SSO and role-based access control.
• Experience working within a CI/CD pipeline and automated quality gates.
• Certifications like Security+, ISC2 CC, CSSLP, DevSecOps Certs
• Consulting or Service Provider background.
• Familiarity with compliance & security frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, NIST, ISO, HITRUST, etc.)

Who You Are

Technical skill matters, and so does the kind of teammate you are. We're a small group building things that patients and clinical staff rely on, and the work goes better when people enjoy working together. We'd love to hear from someone who is:

• A good teammate. You share credit, assume good intent, and treat the codebase as something the team owns together.
• Open to feedback. You see code review as a chance to learn, and you're comfortable when a colleague spots something you missed — that's the system working.
• Comfortable asking questions. Nobody expects you to know everything, especially early on. Saying “I'm not sure — can you walk me through this?” is genuinely welcome here.
• Happy to share what you know. You explain things patiently, write down what you learn, and make things a little easier for whoever comes next.
• Dependable. You follow through, and you give people a heads-up when something is taking longer than expected.
• Comfortable working across roles. You'll talk with clinical and operations staff, client contacts, and project leads, and you can adjust how you explain things depending on who's listening.
• Level-headed. Production issues and client escalations come with the territory. We value people who stay calm, focus on the fix, and work the problem as a team.
• Curious. About the code, about the healthcare side of things, and about why the system is built the way it is.

If some of these come more naturally to you than others, that's fine, we're looking for the overall shape, not a perfect score.

How We Expect You to Use AI Tools

This is a real part of the job, so we're explicit about it:

• You own the output. “The assistant wrote it” is not an explanation in code review.
• You verify against our codebase, not against general practice. Our conventions are specific and deliberate, and generated code has to match them.
• You protect PHI absolutely. No protected health information, credentials, or client-identifying production data goes into any AI tool outside approved, contractually covered channels. No exceptions, no judgment calls.
• You use it to learn, not to skip learning. We expect you to be a meaningfully stronger engineer at twelve months than at day one, and AI assistance should accelerate that rather than substitute for it.

Schedule and Availability

• Willingness to work occasionally on weekends and holidays based on workload.
• Availability for after-hours on-call support rotation as required.
• Meets deadlines and milestones set by leadership, with proactive communication when risks or blockers arise.
• Extreme attention to detail and a commitment to doing the work the right way the first time, no quick patches, no temporary fixes left in place, and no shortcuts that create future technical debt.

Abilities & Qualities

• Client-Focused & Adaptable — Maintains client context, empathy, and urgency in every engagement; adapts quickly to changing priorities and client needs; goes above and beyond to deliver exceptional experiences.
• Clear & Collaborative Communicator — Communicates clearly and confidently with clients and teammates; builds positive relationships and works well within a team.
• Hands-On Doer — Balances structured process with practical, hands-on execution.
• Problem Solver & Continuous Improver — Proactively identifies issues, proposes solutions, and pushes for continuous improvement; strives for excellence in every engagement.
• Accountable End-to-End — Takes ownership of tasks from start to finish — including thorough testing, validation, and documentation — and drives results with minimal supervision.
• Disciplined in Delivery & Detail — Consistently meets deadlines and milestones with proactive communication when risks or blockers arise; commits to doing the work the right way the first time — no quick patches, no temporary fixes left in place, and no shortcuts that create future technical debt.
• Team Player — Supports teammates and contributes to a positive, collaborative culture.

What Success Looks Like

• You own features end to end (API, front end, database, and tests) from ticket to production.
• Pull requests you submit rarely bounce for authorization gaps, PHI handling mistakes, or missing test coverage. Reviewers are checking your design decisions, not your fundamentals.
• Defects you fix stay fixed. Your reproductions are reliable and your changes include tests that prevent regression.
• Client-reported defect volume in areas you own trends down, not up.
• AI-assisted output you submit is indistinguishable in quality from hand-written code because you reviewed and corrected it before anyone else saw it.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

• Small, senior team. Direct mentorship and real ownership, not ticket-shoveling.
• Regulated healthcare setting. Security and privacy are engineering work here, not a separate exercise.
• A well-cared-for codebase with strong test coverage and enforced quality standards, and every intention of keeping it that way.
• Direct impact on client success and company growth
• Exposure to diverse technologies and environments
• Opportunity to shape solutions, standards, and strategy
• Collaborative leadership and engineering culture
• Continuous learning and certification support.
• Work with cutting-edge cloud and security technologies.

Compensation and Benefits

• Attractive compensation and benefits.
• Retirement Savings Plan.
• Paid Time Off.
• Paid Training and Certifications.

Salary

$60,000 - $80,000 per year
